I swear, I've had to have used that title for the first entry of the year for the past 3 or 4 years.

2007 was full of a lots of ends and lots of beginnings and some more ends. But I suppose that's like most years.

Things I'm doing in 2008:

Last time recording with Wembly + last show/album release
Wedding shoot in Portugal
Exploring Europe for the first time
Taking 1 self portrait a day for a year

Things I hope happen in 2008:

Become more established as a photographer
Move to (insert major city here)
Get a job working for Apple
Write more music for Clapham Omnibus
Save money
New love?

First wedding shoot...

So, my first wedding shoot was this past weekend. I don't think I've ever had such a frustrating and stressful photo shoot ever. But the experience was definitely good, and I got quite a few good photos out of it too. Here are the first few edits.

I've been meaning to update this...

Remember how I said I was moving home in December? I lied.

I'm now flying back home for Christmas, but then in January flying back here. Why might you ask? Well, this semester has been kinda slow for Wembly. But in the last couple of months, we've written 3 new songs that are really great. But, we haven't recorded them yet. Add that on top of the 3 or so other recordings we have yet to even release from last year, and you can see that we have a bit of material that would just disappear into nothing once the band is over.... And that would make me really sad.

So, here's the plan. In January, I will not be working my part-time job. Instead, I will be spending all my time recording with the band those 3 unrecorded songs (and perhaps more). When it's all said and done, by the end of January hopefully, we will have an album/EP finished and ready to sell. The question is, what would a band that's breaking up do with any money made from CD sales? The money doesn't really matter to me, and I'd just as willingly give it away for free if people really wanted it. But I thought of a better idea.

Instead of selling it and pocketing the money, we've decided we're going to give any of the money profited directly to the Blood:Water Mission, which exists solely to provide "clean blood and clean water to fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic, to build clean wells in Africa, to support medical facilities caring for the sick, to make a lasting impact in the fight against poverty, injustice and oppression in Africa through the linking of needs, talents and continents, of people and resources."

"I don't even know anymore..." - Johnmark

I might be moving back home. At least for a little while.

I hate that though. I hate feeling like I need to go home to make it in the real world. But it's not true really. I think I could make it fine in the real world if I didn't. Yet, looking at all my options, I continually can't see any reason other than my pride getting in the way of going back. It might be my best option. I can live at home with my parents, find a better job at somewhere like an Apple store, a Starbucks, or (just maybe) Guitar Center (?) that will likely also be able to transfer to any major city I choose to move to later on (plus there are all the benefits), and I wouldn't have to pay any rent. Even if I found somewhere that wasn't home that was free rent or close enough to free, I'd feel bad for mooching no matter how open and willing the people letting me live with them would be. Also, it means I could actually save money, something I have been absolutely horrible at for pretty much my entire life. It might be short term saving - saving enough to be able to viably move to another major city maybe - but it would make such a move way easier.

The downsides? Ok, I'm positive I'll be bored out of my mind. At least here, I have some friends I can hang out with some and a band to play music with. Back home, I don't really talk with many of my old friends at all, I won't have a band to play with (maybe I could work on Clapham stuff?), and I'm positive there really aren't any decent churches around either. I'll miss my friends here. But let's face it, staying would only be postponing the inevitable. So it doesn't seem like much of a good reason to stay, and there's always the chance that I might live in the same city as them later on.

So yeah, I'm seriously thinking about it now. And I feel like I'm leaning towards it now. My fear is that I'll move down there, look for a job at the places I listed, not get hired, find another stupid, dead-end job and hate every moment of it, and somehow get stuck living at home way longer than I intended.

On a different topic, I'm listening to this guy I've never heard before, William Fitzsimmons. It's pretty good. Really chill acoustic folk. Reminds me a little of Iron and Wine, mostly in how his voice is that oh-so-folky-hip whisper/singing style.

How am I not myself?

The concept behind this photo is simple. Lately I have wanted to present myself as a much more confident person. I would say that I am confident in certain areas of my life, but in many others, I simply am not.

I've been trying to fake it. Is that bad? It seems bad to me.

Yet overall, I think it's helped at least a little. The only problem is that I forget to fake it too often.

I think it's different to fake a quality that is beneficial to one's spiritual development if the goal is to adopt that quality rather than deceive people with it.

For example, if I want to be a nice and caring person, but have trouble being so, faking it to try and become so wouldn't be wrong. However, if I were faking it because I was actually a huge douche bag and wanted to deceive people by being nice and caring to get what I want, that would be wrong.

Am I right?
